Our Wildflowers

Spring and summer are lush on this property, and we have lots of wildflowers. Here's a few of them, though by no means all. If you can identify any of the mystery ones, I'd be glad to hear about it. For that matter, if you want to dispute any of my identifications, drop me a line. It's not like I'm an expert on this stuff. Thanks to Leeseekid for some identifications.

Update 2/13/00: Thanks to Bev Parks for a few more identifications. For more nature and other fun, drop by Bev's website Cloudbow.

Update 3/2/00: HUGE thanks to Marylin Anderson, who contributed both identifications and suggestions for good wildflower books!

These photos are generally in chronological order; the ones at the top came into flower first.

Just click on the pictures for larger versions, of course.

myster201.jpg (111290 bytes)Another mystery. First spotted April 21.

...and here I got so danged busy that I didn't get back out to the wild part of the land until almost two months had passed...

Queen Anne's Lace. Photographed June 15. Daisies. I never have figured out precisely what variety they are, but we have a bazillion of them. Photographed June 15.

Don't know what this one is. It's aquatic, and our little stream is full of it. Photographed June 15.

This one looks more purple in real life than our camera picks up. That's not much help in identifying it, though. Photographed June 15.

Some sort of aster, I think. Photographed June 15. Nootka rose. Photographed June 15.

Common madia. Photographed June 15.

Another mystery. Photographed June 15.

Lewis' Syringa. Photographed June 15. Little yellow flowers. There's a field of them in one spot on our land, but they're not widespread. Or identified. Photographed June 15.

Dalmatian Toadflax. Photographed June 15.

Lupine. Photographed June 15.

Sticky Pink Geranium. Photographed June 15.

There were more, but the camera's memory was full.

2000 wildflowers start here

Flower1.jpg (81043 bytes) The first little white flowers of the season. I have no idea what they are. The plant is about 2-3" across, and has a tiny bulb in the ground beneath it. First seen March 5. Marylin says "a Lomatium - not sure which one."
First bits of color, spotted March 5. Identification uncertain; perhaps a buttercup of some sort. The flower is a bit less than an inch across. Marylin identified this as "Sage Brush Buttercup - Ranunculus glaberrimus" Flower2.jpg (78652 bytes)
prairie_star.jpg (77830 bytes) Prairie Star. Came into flower about March 8.
Fern-leaved lomatium. First flowers spotted April 2. fern1.jpg (93400 bytes)fern2.jpg (103032 bytes)
dandelion1.jpg (86934 bytes) Dandelion. Came into flower about April 2.
Purple-Cross Flower. Spotted April 4. pc1.jpg (73312 bytes)pc2.jpg (62841 bytes)

I got too busy to take pictures after that in 2000. But I did a much better job in 1999. Those pictures are on this other huge page.
