by Gordon Thomas

Out of print now but rather timely, this one is a social history of the 1929 stock market crash. It spends most of its pages on the boom leading up to the bust, looking at how ordinary people got sucked into the stock market mania. But the aftermath is there as well, from simple people losing their savings to captains of industry losing their fortunes. Could it happen again? Maybe the safeguards are better now, but people are just as subject to fads and get rich quick schemes as ever.
